About the Group 
The purpose of the Research and Development Group is to study the languages of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan and further develop numerous research orientations such as the study of new ethnic words, the compilation of writing symbol system and writing norms in ethnic languages, the compilation of ethnic language learning vocabulary, the compilation of ethnic language books, the compilation of ethnic language dictionaries and written and spoken word banks, and the survey of ethnic language ability.
The outcome of the aforementioned foundational research and development will be applied to cross-group horizontal knowledge exchanges, such as providing a reference for the test development group to formulate test questions, providing a window for the education and promotion group to present achievements and promote activities. The research and development process of this Group is based on studies in language writing, vocabulary, surveys, compilation, collection, and expansion. On this basis, the Group will continue to expand and develop. Future development will include the research and promotion of ethnic language ability indicators, the research, promotion, and application of ethnic language semantics and sentence patterns, and other research and applications such as the development of ethnic language translation/ interpretation/ literal translation, including talent cultivation, expanding ethnic language bank and developing artificial intelligence systems.

Duties
Ethnic languages policy research and ability survey.
Ethnic languages translation and compilation.
Create new ethnic vocabulary in 2020: A total of 1,440 vocabularies and example sentences in 16 ethnic languages.
Compile books on morphological analysis in 2020: 4 books.
Compile dictionaries of ethnic languages. 
Vocabulary learning outcome: A total of 45,948 words and example sentences in 42 languages.
Construct ethnic language bank.
Collect and compile ethnic language bank: 100 entries.
